Kansas Legal Services is a national non-profit organization that helps low-income Kansans meet their basic needs by providing legal, mediation, and basic professional training services. Free or low-cost services are offered to Kansas residents who are involved in civil matters and meet eligibility criteria in terms of income, case type, and other criteria such as age or county of residence. Most states follow a no-fault policy (no reason required to get a divorce). To submit an application, the person must be a resident of that state for at least 180 days prior to filing. The toll-free number operates Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. Help Centre staff are unable to provide legal advice or recommend a specific course of action. A complete disclaimer of the services offered is available at the Help Center office. The Access to Justice Advice Line is open to Kansas residents who need help with civil or state legal matters and are directed to the hotline by court staff.
Advice is provided by telephone by a Kansas Legal Services attorney. Please ask the clerk of the local district court for the telephone number of the helpline. Visit our YouTube channel for more legal education. If you need legal advice to learn more about your situation: representation in programs is offered pro bono or at a reduced price depending on the person`s income. Pro bono services are provided at 125% to 200% of the federal poverty directive. There are certain restrictions on legal services with respect to client and case eligibility. Legal clinics are reserved for advice and education. KLS provides support to low- and middle-income Kansans through legal and mediation services. Most often, they help people with low incomes for a family of this size. Please note that you will not initiate any criminal proceedings. The Family Law Self-Help Center exists to help self-represented litigants resolve their family law issues in Sedgwick County.
Family Law Staff are dedicated to providing the information and forms that unrepresented parties need to participate in court proceedings and resolve their cases. However, the Family Law Mutual Aid Centre does not offer legal advice. This clinic is hosted by Kansas Legal Services. It provides free and high-quality representation for those who have disputes with the Internal Revenue Service. It serves Kansas residents. You can contact them at 1-800-723-6952 or apply online by completing the application at KLS Taxpayer Clinic Application. Unrepresented litigants are self-represented because they do not want to hire a lawyer or cannot afford a lawyer. Volunteers can be on site on Mondays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Wednesdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. to help unrepresented litigants complete forms.
These volunteers do not provide legal advice. Clerks and assistants in the Family Law Department cannot provide legal advice or recommend a specific course of action in a case. Legal advice programmes provide information and advice. You can also provide legal representation in certain civil law matters. The hotline serves any Kansas resident 60 years of age or older, regardless of income. The helpline provides seniors with access to a lawyer who advises them on civil legal matters and refers them to other resources if needed.
