They are as follows: (17) See the hospital`s list of standard fees for items and services and health plans in which the hospital participates. Emergency hospital admissions usually occur when a patient seen in the emergency department is then admitted to the hospital. Elective hospital admissions occur when a physician requires that a bed be reserved for a patient on a given day.
The patient then registers at the admission centre and does not go to the emergency room. Non-urgent admissions account for the majority of hospital admissions, but this percentage varies considerably from hospital to hospital. On the evening shift of the third day of admission, her nurse heard a sudden noise and noticed that the incubator door was open and the baby was lying on the floor. The attending nurse immediately reported the incident to the on-call physician. The newborn was thoroughly examined and no physical injuries were found. In addition, the incident was reported to the department`s chief physician and the record of the incident was immediately sent to hospital officials. There may come a time when you or a loved one needs to be hospitalized. Today`s large urban hospitals can be confusing and a little scary for someone who doesn`t know how they work.
In general, there are two main types of hospitalizations, urgent admissions and elective admissions. If your admission to the hospital is scheduled, how you will be admitted will depend on whether you are going to a public or private hospital, what type of treatment you will receive and the urgency of your treatment. Before going to the hospital, your doctor will usually refer you to a specialist, and you will need to contact the specialized clinic and make an appointment. The specialist will assess you and may send you for further tests to assess your health problem before deciding what type of treatment you need and whether you should go to the hospital for treatment or surgery. At this point, you will also be told how long you will have to wait for treatment. In public hospitals, your wait time for elective surgery depends on the urgency of your condition, which is determined by the specialist who will admit you to the hospital.
